I've been building apps under Cyber-Jack for a while now and never said much about it in public. That's about to change.
Two reasons.
The first is selfish. When I write things down weekly, I have to admit what I actually did. "Yeah I had a productive week" goes from vibe to a list of commits, builds and shipped features. If the list is short, the list is short. I'd rather face that than keep telling myself stories.
The second is for whoever is reading. If you've downloaded GutLedger or ListLedger, or you signed up to be a tester for Odomo, Inkframe or Shoji, I'd rather you knew there's one person behind it. Not a "team". Not a "we". Just me, working on this around a day job.
What this journal is
A weekly post, every Thursday. Honest write-up of:
- What I shipped
- What I broke
- What the numbers actually look like
- What I'm working on next
Numbers card at the top of the journal stays current - downloads, active users, revenue, hours spent. No vanity metrics. If revenue is zero, the card says zero.
What it isn't
Marketing. I'm not going to pretend GutLedger is bigger than it is, or that Odomo is a sure thing. Most of what I ship will probably make zero money. That's fine. The point is to keep shipping, learn fast, and keep the bar high on the things people do download.
Where I am right now
- GutLedger: live on Android and iOS, slow and steady downloads, free with a Pro IAP nobody has bought yet
- ListLedger: live on iOS, beta on Android, a handful of households using it
- Odomo (UK mileage tracker): finishing internal testing, aiming for store submission this month
- Inkframe (tattoo lifecycle app): early development, taking tester signups
- Shoji (calm puzzle game): early development, taking tester signups
Plus a content pipeline pumping out short videos, and this journal section being born right now.
If any of this is interesting, the RSS feed is the best way to follow along. No newsletter for the journal yet - I want to keep the studio launches list and the journal separate.
See you Thursday.
